Stop giving out more information.
You may be thinking, what? Why on earth would I stop giving out more information? These people are uneducated on what they’re putting in their bodies!
While this may be true, people do not need you to give them a bunch of facts of everything they are not doing. What they actually need is someone to help them actually do the things they are being informed about.
We are now in an era where there are endless resources out there. A quick Google search and you can find a plethora of nutrition and fitness resources out there. But here’s the problem - with so much information out there we actually become stunned by all the choices that we actually don’t do anything at all.
Sometimes ignorance on fire is better than knowledge on ice.
When a client comes to you, they probably say one of the following:
“I just want to feel better.”
“I want to lose 20 lbs.”
“My doctor said I need to start eating better and working out.”
“I want to lose fat, and gain muscle.”
The list goes on . . .
But what they are actually telling you is, “I know what I would need to do to accomplish my goals, however I need someone to push me to actually make it happen.”
Your clients do not need you to respond with a long list of all the things they need to do to make their goals happen. This is temptingly easy to do however because we like to think we are a fitness encyclopedia and we are excited to share our knowledge with our clients. I’m telling you though, this is not all that your client needs.
What they actually need you to do is bridge the gap between their wants and actions. We need to help them transform their desires into real, small action steps that will get them to where they want to be.
We could try and narrow the gap by educating our clients, or giving them a few starter tips or we could actually bridge this gap by making a clear action plan for our clients and coaching them throughout the process.
If you want to see growth in your business, you need to meet your client where they are at. Your potential client is likely overwhelmed with information and therefore too scared to get started only to start over again if it doesn’t work.
They need someone who will be confident in the action plan that is set and who will also be readily available resource during the process. Your job is not only to get them started, but help them through the entire action plan.
It won’t be a linear process. We’re not perfect by any means when it comes to sticking to a routine. Sometimes we miss a workout, or we eat too many tortilla chips at dinner. Whatever it may be, the most important part is making sure your client stays consistent over a long period of time.
This will happen through communication and giving them a good experience. Build a relationship with your client. Hold them accountable. Encourage them when they fall off track. THAT is what will help your clients stay on track and see the results they’ve been longing for.
Coach Catalyst makes this entire experience possible. With personalized messages, and scheduled reminders, you as a coach can give your client just what they’ve been looking for. This will not only give your clients great results, but it will also give you higher retention rates, and therefore more money in your pocket!
